We source directly from smallholder farms across Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, and Java — then roast in small batches at our Mississippi Ave. warehouse every Tuesday and Friday morning.

Our Story

A Roastery Born
From Obsession

North & Pine started in 2019 with a secondhand roaster, a 400-square-foot warehouse off Mississippi Ave, and a shared belief between two former baristas that Portland deserved better than commodity coffee.

Mara and Tom Okafor spent two years traveling to origin — Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe highlands, Guatemala's Huehuetenango region, Java's volcanic slopes — building direct relationships with farmers who share their commitment to quality and fairness.

Today, our café on NW 23rd serves as both roastery showroom and neighborhood gathering place. Every bag of beans we sell is roasted within 72 hours of purchase. Every cup tells the story of the people who grew it.
